About the Opportunity
Set the Standard, Rather Than Inherit It
Most commercial roles at this level arrive with the guidelines for best practice already defined under somebody else’s vision. This is different…
A well-established, self-performing civil contractor is expanding its major projects and alternative procurement capability, and it already has the awards, the partnerships and the momentum to make that growth a certainty rather than an ambition. The commercial practice behind it is still taking shape. Whoever takes this role will have a voice in the pursuits the business chases, influence while positions are still being negotiated, and the opportunity to define how the division works for everyone who follows.
If you have been in construction long enough to know how much of a project’s outcome is decided before a shovel goes in the ground, this is worth five minutes:
- A capable, established contractor already winning alternative and collaborative delivery work, with the backing to keep doing it
- Involvement early, while commercial positions are still being shaped rather than defended
- The chance to set procedures, governance and best practice for a growing division
- Self-perform capability, so entitlement is supported by real records and real production data
- Joint venture and consortium work alongside the strongest commercial teams in the market
- Direct access to decision-makers, without layers of matrix reporting in between
About You
You are commercially fluent and technically credible, which is a rarer combination than the market likes to admit. You can read a project agreement and see the construction sequence behind it. You can sit with a superintendent and translate what actually happened on site into a position that stands up.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Experience on the contractor side, across both preconstruction and execution for large, complex work
- Real exposure to collaborative and alternative delivery rather than stipulated sum alone
- Comfort in the room while terms are being negotiated, and the discipline to document what was agreed
- A preference for resolving things early over winning them late
- The credibility to tell a project team, or an executive, something they would rather not hear
About the Job
What’s On Offer?
You will lead contract and commercial management across the group’s major pursuits and projects: shaping strategy, supporting negotiations, protecting entitlement, leading change and claims, and keeping the commercial reality of a project visible to the people making decisions about it.
- Commercial leadership across the full lifecycle, from opportunity assessment through to closeout
- Influence at the front of a pursuit rather than downstream of it
- The chance to shape how a growing division operates, and to be recognized for it
- Hybrid working from a GTA head office, with travel to sites, partner offices and pursuits as the work demands
- A compensation package that reflects the seniority of the role
- Real proximity to the executive group, in a business that is growing and intends to keep growing
- Salary Range: $150,000 to $190,000
