About the Opportunity
Safety, Technical Excellence, Compliance and Margin. All at Once.
Major infrastructure gets delivered in public. Designers, owners, investors, municipalities, utilities, regulators and the contractors doing the work all hold a stake, and none of them are looking at the same problem. The technical lead is the person who makes one solution work for all of them.
A well-established, self-performing civil contractor with a strong record on complex public realm infrastructure is looking for the technically minded project leader to sit at that centre; driving collaborative solutions across live projects and new pursuits alike, and holding the line on constructability, compliance and commercial performance.
If you enjoy the problems that only get solved by bringing the right people into the same room, this is worth five minutes.
What makes this worth a look:
- An established contractor with a proven record on complex public infrastructure, and the awards and partnerships to keep growing
- The interface role across designers, owners, utilities, regulators and project partners, with the standing to drive resolution
- Progressive design-build, CMAR, alliance and P3 work, where technical leadership shapes both the win and the outcome
- Self-perform crews who will build what you develop the method for, and who will tell you honestly whether it works
- Constructability and temporary works problems worth solving: shoring, staging, access, utilities, dewatering, sequencing
- Work that ends up built, in the ground, in communities you drive through
About You
You are a technically minded project leader who never stopped being interested in how things actually get built. You are as comfortable in a constructability workshop as you are in front of a client panel or a municipal stakeholder, and you have a low tolerance for a technical solution that reads beautifully but would not survive contact with a site.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- A career in heavy civil across design management, technical management or project delivery, underpinned by a strong engineering foundation
- Experience holding a technical position together across designers, owners, utilities and regulators with competing interests
- Deep familiarity with sequencing, staging, temporary works, utilities and field execution
- Real exposure to alternative and collaborative delivery, where the technical answer has to satisfy everyone at the table
- The ability to turn a construction strategy into a narrative, a diagram and a schedule that people believe
- A collaborative instinct, because this role only works through other people
About the Job
What’s On Offer?
Lead the technical and design management effort across major projects and preconstruction assignments, integrating design, constructability, methodology, temporary works, schedule and risk into solutions that are safe, constructable, compliant and commercially sound, then keeping that thinking intact as the work moves through delivery.
- Technical and design leadership across the group’s major projects and pursuits
- Ownership of the technical interface with designers, owners, partners and public bodies
- The chance to shape solutions rather than administer them
- Close collaboration with estimating, scheduling, operations and field leadership from day one
- Hybrid working from a GTA head office, with travel to sites, partner offices and pursuits as the work demands
- Compensation and scope appropriate to a senior technical leadership role
- Salary Range: $150,000 to $190,000
